Swaddywell is a former limestone quarry, now a RIGS / LGS managed by the Langdyke Trust with help from local volunteers. It has several good exposures of Jurassic strata.
The site has a history of limestone extraction since the Roman period! The local poet John Clare frequented the site in the early 19th century. The site was used as a quarry until the 1960s, and thereafter was used for dumping industrial waste and more recently as a car rallying track.
